If Ricketts’ attacking philosophy faulted in midweek against AFC Fylde, it certainly rebooted itself in front of the BT Sport cameras against Boreham Wood this lunchtime.
The Welshman caught up with the National League’s Oli Osborn after Wrexham ran out 3-0 winnders, and said he thought his side could further improve.
He said, “I’m delighted with the win, delighted with seven points from the first week but for me, I’m picking holes in our performance, I want us to be better.
“The game was a little bit end to end, it was a little bit who could score first and who had the quality.
“We’ve got quality that’s why we ended up scoring three goals. We’ve got quality at the other end too that’s why we kept the ball out the net.
Wrexham were top of the league for a brief period after the game and Ricketts seems to be getting the best out of his team but knows that there is still a long way to go until he can celebrate anything.
“It’s the first week of the season,” he said. “If I was stood here now with no points, I’d probably be saying the same thing – it’s the first week of the season.
“There’s a long way to go and we need to improve. Without trying to be boring, it’s a marathon not a sprint, we’ve had a good first week but that’s all it is,” he added.
