Ricketts Doesn't Think '1-0 Wrexham' Tag Tells The Story

By Sam Elliott

Sam Ricketts doesn’t want anyone thinking his team are going on the defensive to keep themselves in the title hunt.

The Dragons manager watched his team before Havant 1-0 - their second home win by that scoreline in a week.

Rekeil Pyke grabbed the only goal of the game and just like against Barnet last week it was enough for three valuable points.

But Ricketts says they are deserving to score more than they’re getting.

“The hardest thing in football is to win games,” Ricketts told the club’s official website. “I’m delighted to win and the performance was good – we just couldn’t get the second goal that would have taken the sting out of the game.

“We didn’t get the second goal purely because their keeper made four or five excellent saves – if he wasn’t their man of the match, I’d be very surprised.

“We are in a really good place. We’re playing well – not outstanding, but we’re playing well, and all I keep trying to do is push to up that performance level.

“I can’t worry about scoring goals. I can’t influence their keeper making unbelievable saves. I can only try to influence our performance. The better our performance, the more chances we’ll create.

“Another clean sheet means we’ve been able to win 1-0. On paper it might look we just defended and saw out a 1-0 but I’d like to think we’re giving more than that.”
