The 24-year-old defender has signed contract with Port until the end of the 2018/19 season and joins on a free transfer.
Richards began his career at Hartlepool United, signing his first professional deal in 2011, going on to spend six years with the North-East club and making over sixty League appearances.
He made fifteen appearances on loan at Alfreton Town before going on to join AFC Fylde.
He has made ten appearances for the Coasters since the start of the season as well as both Second Round Emirates FA Cup ties against Wigan Athletic.
Richards told Southport`s official website: “I’m really made up to be joining Southport. It’s a club going in the right direction. There’s obviously a lot of ambition. I’ve listened to everything that the club has planned, and I really want to be a part of that. What everyone’s looking to do here is a really exciting project and I just want to get started”
Southport manager Kevin Davies said: “We’ve watched Jordan a few times now. He’s played in the leagues above and done really well. He’s taken his chances up at Fylde. Likes to get forward, he’s got great delivery and great energy. He’s certainly going to add to the group of players that we’ve got. Jordan adds quality and competition for places, so we’re pleased he’s decided to join us and buy into the vision and what we’re trying to achieve”.
