Relegated Lions Extend Deals For Outstanding Young Duo

The Lions have exercised options on both Morrison and Green’s contracts for them to remain with the club for a further season.

Goalkeeper Green, 21, was signed last summer to compete for the goalkeeper’s jersey alongside Jonny Maxted.

For a spell he took over from Maxted but when Jonny signed for Accrington Stanley Green was once again pushed into the wings as understudy to loanee Luke Coddington.

Green, however, took advantage of a suspension for the Northampton Town player, keeping a clean sheet in his first game and retaining the jersey for the remainder of the season.

The Barnsley-based Green joined the club after helping former Lions manager Steve Kittrick’s Scarborough Athletic to rise into the play-offs in the Evo-Stik League North last season.

Green played for Sheffield FC at 18 before hooking up with Sheffield United.

The Blades had four ‘keepers and Green saw little way to make progress so took up a four-year football and business scholarship offer at Monroe College, New York.

He quickly returned to England after finding the football with Monroe Mustangs not living up to expectations.

Green was then given an opportunity by John Sheridan at SkyBet League Two Newport County, who were seeking a back-up ‘keeper.

Former Guiseley goalkeeper-turned-defender Matt Taylor (ex-Bradford City) had been covering the role.

Green made one first-team appearance for Newport in 2015/16, a substitute appearance in an Emirates FA Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers.

He joined Scarborough in February 2017 after a short spell playing for Handsworth Parramore and Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Sheffield-born winger Morrison, 20, figured in Guiseley’s pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2017/18 National League campaign and impressed but was soon shipped out on loan for experience to Buxton.

He later joined Matlock Town on loan but was recalled by Guiseley in April and made three appearances in the closing stages of the season.

Morrison (pictured) began his career with Chesterfield in 2016 and made his professional debut in a 3–1 EFL Cup defeat against Rochdale.

In August 2016, Morrison joined Gainsborough Trinity on loan and had further loans at Matlock Town in September 2016 and January 2017 - the latter extended to a season-long loan in March 2017.
