Reds' McDermott Is Just Happy To Look Down On Darlo

Alfreton manager John McDermott knows their draw at home to Darlington is not a turning point in their season.

But he says he’s just happy they’ve managed to keep the Quakers below them in the National League North table. Watch Match Highlights Here.

The 1-1 draw saw the Reds fight back to earn a share of the spoils, but it didn’t improve their league position.

McDermott wasn’t complaining - he just knew how vital it was that Tommy Wright’s side didn’t come the Impact Arena and win.

“I thought it was a good point, I also thought it was a vital point - we knew we couldn’t get beat,” he told the National League’s Oli Osborn.

“Sometimes you have got to keep teams who are in and around you below you. We’ve done that.

“We have been on a bad run, especially at home. We worked very hard and we had three good chances to get a goal in the first half but it just never happened.

“We told the lads to keep believing and they did. Today was vital that we kept going

“Darlington were being tipped to go and win it this season, or at least be in the play-offs. They’ve got a lot of clout. So a 1-1 draw with them is not bad.

“It’s not a turning point, but it keeps us going and it keeps them below us.”
