Reds Cancel Goalkeeper`s Contract

Alfreton Town have confirmed that an agreement between the club and goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe has been reached to cancel his contract by mutual consent.

Springthorpe joined the Reds from Southport on a one-year deal in June 2017 and featured during the pre-season schedule, but has yet to make an appearance in the 2017/18 season.

Springthorpe then moved on loan to Evo-Stik League Premier side Sutton Coldfield Town in August on loan for several months.

Alfreton boss John McDermott said: "It's been a difficult season for Mason, Chris has come in and done brilliantly for us. It's harder for a keeper unless it's rotation and keeper's rarely get injured too. Chris came in and kept his place which meant Mason was short on chances.

"He then went on loan to Sutton for a few months and this was for him to get games, unfortunately it didn`t work out for Mason with us and it was beneficial for him to cancel his contract with us. He needs to get games, he was a nice lad and had a great attitude, we wish him all the best".
