The club's board attended a meeting with various government officials to discuss their proposals.
The ambitious plans will see all four sides of the stadium used and even a football museum built in one of the stands.
Wrexham say the meeting is just an early step but were happy with initial response to their ideas.
The Vanarama National League club posted an update for fans on their official website last night.
"On Tuesday representatives of the Board of Wrexham AFC met members of the Welsh Government along with other AMs, government officials, Wrexham Council and Glyndwr University in Cardiff Bay to talk about our ambitious vision for the future of the Racecourse Ground to include a National Football Museum," the statement read.
"We were very pleased with a great turnout of AMs despite a long session in the Assembly Chamber who heard our presentation and were especially grateful to Wrexham Council and Glyndwr University, who both sent representatives to the meeting ensuring we had all of the key stakeholders present for the session.
"The presentation made by directors was very well received.
"Our plans are at a very early stage but rest assured that we are continuing to work behind the scenes to achieve a redeveloped Racecourse Ground for the whole of North Wales."
