Graham Barrow is taking the team as the Red Dragons search for Sam Ricketts’ replacement.
While things may not have been looking so rosey this week, that all changed on Saturday.
Championship rivals Leyton Orient and Salford City both came unstuck and the weekend results mean Wrexham are four points off the lead with a game in hand.
Their 2-0 win over away day experts Eastleigh could be critical, the caretaker said.
“What we have done is given ourselves a platform to have a good season,” Barrow said. The league is our bread and butter and we want to be in that leading pack.
“It was vital to get back to winning ways. It was important for the players too.
“The pace at the top of the league is relentless. Nobody’s got a cushion and so we need to stay with it.
“The second-half performance was very pleasing. Eastleigh have come here, having won their last five away games so we needed a response.
“It’s easy to expect the sort of performance we got in front of the TV cameras but we worked well this week and the players showed a good appetite.”
