A tentative first-half showing was following by a dominant second-half performance as the U’s ran out 4-0 winners at Gander Green Lane.
Due to leaders Macclesfield’s last-minute winner over Maidenhead, Sutton remain five points adrift in second place.
The U’s, on paper, have a favourable run of fixtures coming up and Doswell thinks the Guiseley win shows a ruthlessness amongst his ranks.
He told SUFCtv: “I don’t think there’s a nervousness in the camp, we just didn’t play very well (in the first half).
“At this level, that happens. We’re going by the old adage of take one game at a time and I don’t think the players are looking at whether we’re second, top or fifth.
“The League is changing week in and week out. What we have done is give ourselves a ten-point cushion between ourselves and eighth-place.
“We need to make sure we get into the play-offs, because that was the original goal, and the next step after that would be trying to finish second or third.”
