Pre-Christmas Points Chase Ramps Up On An Massive Saturday

By Sam Elliott

Nothing beats a festive football feast and part one of the four-pronged holiday period free-for-all looks pretty tasty.

Let’s start when it ends - a TNT Sports game between second place Bromley and very much alive Altrincham on Saturday night.

The hosts love life at home while Alty manager Phil Parkinson says this promotion push has been years in the planning and you can read a dedicated match preview here.

By the time that kicks-off, Chesterfield could boast an eleven point advantage.

Victory over Aldershot Town will send the leaders racing clear but with both sides freescoring, the battle of the FA Cup heroes could swing either way.

Despite their iffy form, Barnet have been able to cling on to third place. Sometimes a win over a rival can totally galvanise a season - and they want revenge over Boreham Wood, who ended their season in the play-off Eliminator back in May.

They did beat them in September, pictured, and Dean Brennan says he wants more of the same.

Gateshead currently hold a play-off place - and Oldham Athletic want it. The Latics could return to the top seven if things go their way elsewhere and they earn a Boundary Park success.

There’s a huge game down the bottom as two teams on either side of the dreaded dotted line go into battle.

Ebbsfleet United will haul York City under if they leave the LNER victorious and Neal Ardley has told his players the importance of this one against a side struggling for points.

FC Halifax Town and Rochdale are perched just outside the play-offs - and the winner of Saturday’s meeting could swoop inside.

There’s interest at both ends as Solihull Moors travel to Oxford City - both managers just want their team to stay in the hunt for when things get serious in a few months.

AFC Fylde’s need to string some wins together is more pressing. The bottom side must start doing the business at home too so opportunity knocks when Dagenham & Redbridge travel to the north west.

It’s the same story for Kidderminster, who can’t afford to let a gap appear between themselves at those outside the drop zone. A home game against Southend United - who have won just twice on the road - is a big chance for Russ Penn’s team.

It is the dawn of a new era at Woking as the club’s new manager Michael Doyle takes charge for the first time.

The Cards host Maidenhead United having sealed their first win since Darren Sarll’s dismissal last weekend.

Hartlepool United fans are worried about the drop with their out-of-form side now just four points above the relegation zone. Fears will ease if John Askey’s team win at Wealdstone, who are two places above them.

Finally, Eastleigh face Dorking Wanderers with both sides in contrasting form and Spitfires manager Richard Hill wants more focus for 90 minutes after a late collapse made their win at Aldershot last weekend less than perfect.
