Plenty Of National League Cup Matters Are Now Decided

It’s been another important week in the National League Cup with some matters now decided.

Five matches took place over the past few days, with three wins delivered by our sides as the competition really heats up.

Braintree Town progressed on Wednesday night as they beat Tottenham Hotspur’s young team to take their place in the next round.

The Iron sit proudly on top of Group D with four wins from four as Chay Cooper’s two goals shot down Spurs.

Oldham Athletic were overpowered by Manchester United 5-0 meaning the Latics fall just short because of what happened the night before.

Altrincham could take second place in Group B after their 2-1 win over Wolves - but only if the re-arranged game between Rochdale and Wolves ended level.

Lucas Weaver scored the winning goal for Alty as they kept their hopes alive, and now they wait.

It wasn’t to be for FC Halifax Town, who bowed out - but made their exit with a 2-1 win against Sunderland under 21s. Goals by Jo Cummings and Zak Emmerson raised a cheer.

Tamworth finish bottom of Group C after Middlesbrough’s U21 side proved to be too strong.

There are still a number of group stage matches to come before the knock-out phase starts next month.
