Platten: Spartans' Destiny Lies In The Hands Of The Fans!

That's the view of Spartans chairman Tony Platten who believes the club's current average gate can't move the club forward.

In a statement on the club's official website, Platten outlined what the club need to make progress.

"We have a financial model that includes income from sponsorship and other revenue streams of which attendances are a key component," he said.

"For the club to remain competitive and financially viable at the current level, we require average gates of at least 1,000, if we were promoted to the National Conference the average gate would need to be 1,500.

"At present the average attendance is around 700, clearly this will not provide the finances to fully support the club and a playing squad capable taking the club forward."

He continued, "The core support from Blyth and the surrounding area is exemplary, a credit to the club and an invaluable vocal boost to the team, it’s the missing support to make up the difference that is key to the future of the club."
