Peaks Relishing Spurs Test With One Eye On Lambs Future

Realistic Andy Peaks knows it could be a cricket score on Sunday as his Tamworth side face Premier League giants Spurs - but he's going to enjoy every second of it anyway.

The Lambs have already made their mark in the FA Cup this year - beating League One sides Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion, and they've been rewarded with a plum tie against a giant of English football.

A sold-out Lamb Ground will welcome - perhaps not warmly - the likes of Son Heung-Min and James Maddison on Sunday in a proper David-versus-Goliath tie.

Peaks - who has been riding the crest of wave since taking over the club almost three years ago - is realistic. He knows their third-round opponents won't have much time for FA Cup romance when the first whistle goes.

He said: "It’s going to be tough, I’m not going to lie. When you draw a team like Tottenham you’ve got to look forward to it.

"Yes, there’ll be a bit of apprehension because they could absolutely steamroller you and I don’t want it to be embarrassing for anyone at the club. But football is football and they’ve got loads of good players so it’s going to be tough.

"I don’t think he [Ange Postecoglou] is going to want to come and lose because he’s got a lot of issues going on. I really don’t know what side they’ll put out but I’d expect some first team players to be coming.

"Whatever team they bring is going to be really decent and it’s going to be a tough day for us. I hope they do bring some good players because that’s what everyone wants to see."

Peaks captured the Southern League Central title two seasons ago, swiftly followed up with the National League North crown a year later.

His reward? A full-time contract at the Lamb as the club look to use this season's FA Cup adventure as a springboard for more success in the future.

Desperate to ensure their decent season so far in the National League wasn't a flash in the pan, Peaks left his full-time job at Tresham College this week to go all-in.

Only this week, a hastily rearranged FA Trophy tie meant preparation time for their huge clash on Sunday has been limited - highlighting the need again for more focus on first-team affairs.

"I’m really pleased. We’ve been speaking about it for a while. I was hoping to be able to both jobs but at National League level it’s just got tougher and tougher and there’s just too much to do in the day. I love my college job, but I wasn’t giving it my full attention really.

"The last couple of weeks we’ve discussed it and almost agreed it anyway. They think it’s a good opportunity for me and there’s no resentment so it’s all good.

"Our preparation hasn’t been any different for this one because we’ve had no time. Tuesday we would’ve trained but we had to play at Sutton which meant the lads got minutes but we’ve not done any specific preparation for Tottenham because we’ve had no time.

"We know a lot about them and how they play and how good they are at it so we’ll train tonight (Thursday) based on that."
