Paul Cox Praises Referee Despite Wasted Journey

By Sam Elliott

Losing a game to the elements when you are already at the ground is testing enough at the best of times.

But when you have travelled all the way to AFC Fylde, Mother Nature has even more to answer for.

But Guiseley manager Paul Cox was philosophical following the Lions’ postponement at Mill Farm last night.

As the rain continued to tumble on the Fylde coast, there was just no way back for the game once the referee took a second look just before 6.30pm.

The game will of course be re-arranged, with a date yet to be set.

Cox told the Yorkshire Post: “Player safety is key, that is what matters and in patches the ball stopped, it made it unsafe and for that you give the referee credit.

“The Fylde groundstaff have worked really hard and tried to get this match on but that just wasn’t to be.

“There has been a lot of bad weather in the area and that has led to that standing water.

“Rather than a game the lads will now use the facilities nearby and train on them, we need to keep us going with training and getting the lads prepared and ready for a key game against Sutton.”
