Parkinson Wants Perspective And For Fans To Trust Him

Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson says he wants fans to trust him when he says he knows the team is good enough.

A challenging first two months for last season’s play-off semi-finalists left some supporters wondering if promotion could be possible this season.

Going in to Tuesday’s home game with in-form Dagenham, the Robins had won only once in seven attempts.

But long-serving Parkinson feels it was only a matter of time before results turned, and the 2-1 victory could be the most important of the season.

“The players are learning every game and every week,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We were playing a team who had scored 11 goals in their last few games and scored seven against Gateshead. We couldn’t have asked for a taller order.

“I could feel the frustration around the club. I know people have big opinions here, as they do at every football club.

“We’ve been here a long time now, if people don’t trust us now they’ll never trust us. We know what we’re doing. I keep reassuring people that the lads are more than good enough for this level. When we click we’ll get there."

Parkinson went on to say he always suspected it could be a demanding start to the new campaign.

“We knew we would have a little hurt early on this season," he said.

“Everybody’s an armchair manager! We’ve got good players here, we knew it was a matter of time before we got it right.

“Everyone feels a bit down with the start looking back having made the play-offs, but we’re on exactly the same points as we were this time a year ago.

“We’re in a healthy position. Keep believing, keeping being real about the expectation and we’ve got to be positive at all costs. Let’s have a bit of perspective about how well this team and football club are doing.”
