Parkinson Upbeat Ahead of Alty's Intriguing Season Opener

Altrincham boss Phil Parkinson is in confident mood heading into the 2019/20 campaign.

Following a play-off finish in their first season back in the Vanarama National League North, the Robins are targeting another successful term this time around.

Not only has the arrival of Nathan Arnold and Conor Branson put the Alty supporters in buoyant mood, keeping the core of last year’s squad has given those at Moss Lane plenty to be positive about.

Recent victories over Blackpool and FA Trophy winners AFC Fylde has provided Parkinson much encouragement before the visit of title favourites York City on the opening day.

Speaking to AltyTV after Saturday’s win versus the Coasters, he said: “We’ve been talking about pressing high up the pitch, cutting areas of the pitch off (for the opposition to space into) and forcing goals in those area instead of playing on the back foot.

“It was really pleasing we were able to execute that so well today.

“The performances in pre-season have kept getting better and this is an accumulation of that. Getting a victory on top of that makes it ever so sweeter.

“We won’t get carried away because we need to be fully focused on playing York City next week.

“They’re a full-time outfit and we need to be at our very best to get anything from that game”.
