Owers Suffers His 'Lowest Point' Ahead Of Big Summer

Gary Owers admits Torquay’s defeat to Guiseley on Tuesday night was the lowest point of his career.

Both sides were already relegated from the National League and were playing for just pride at Plainmoor.

Rhys Healey netted a hat-trick for the Gulls but it wasn’t enough as Guiseley left Devon with a 4-3 victory.

Torquay host play-off hopefuls Ebbsfleet United on the final day before a big summer ahead of next season’s National League South campaign.

Owers told Devon Live: ”I am shocked. That's not a representation of me and not of Torquay United fans or the club in any shape or form.

"Sorry is not a big enough word - there isn't a word to apologise for that. It was dreadful. I think that's the lowest point of my career, and it's not about me though.

“I am not making any excuses. I am there to be shot at, and I am being shot at. It's my fault. I have to take the blame, I know that.

“I am going to be a lot happier taking any blame when I get a team that will at least play with passion. Let's get through the rest of the week and move the thing forward.”
