Over 70 Apply For Daggers Job As More Exits Announced

Dagenham are getting nearer naming the club’s new manager with over 70 applying for the job.

Applications to replace John Still won’t be accepted after Tuesday night.

The club have had an impressive level of interest - but today announced further departures.

Still’s number two Darren Currie has left Victoria Road, with coach Junior Lewis also departing.

Former Watford star Micah Hyde has meanwhile been told he won’t be running the club’s academy.

Goalkeeping coach Jim Stannard must also look for a new club after six years of service in East London.

A club statement reassured fans that there should be movement of their search for a new manager soon.

“Following on from discussions with Darren Currie and Junior Lewis both have decided to cancel their contracts with the Club by mutual consent,” read a statement.

“The club would like to put on record its tremendous gratitude to both of them for their efforts whilst with us. Both are extremely talented coaches and, we are certain, have promising careers in front of them.

“With the loss of funding for our Academy, which ceases two years after relegation from the English Football League, the club will be looking to extend its academy partnership with Barking & Dagenham College.

“Unfortunately this means that the post of Academy Manager will no longer exist. Consequently Micah Hyde has been informed that his contract will not be renewed when it finishes at the end of June.

“Micah has been part of our Academy set up since 2012 and really stepped up following our relegation two years ago. His success last season in getting to the FA Youth Cup 4th round is a testament to his dedication and management and we wish him every success for the future.

“Goalkeeper coach Jim Stannard is another leaving us this summer as a result of the current reorganisation. Jim has been a stalwart at the training ground over 6 years and the fact that Mark Cousins was voted Player of the Year last season is an indication of Jim’s hard work.

“It is extremely sad to lose four very talented individuals in one go but we wish each of them the very best in the future in the knowledge that they will always receive a warm welcome at Victoria Road.”

Dagenham added that on-going off-field issues isn’t effecting the recruitment process.

“With regard to the search for a new manager the deadline for applications closes tomorrow, Tuesday,” the statement added.

“So far we have had over 70 candidates apply. We have already started the process of drawing up a shortlist for interview which we hope to hold later this week.”
