That is the view of joint manager Bernard Morley after the club suffered another promotion set-back.
On Saturday the Blues slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue.
It was their fourth defeat in five - and the club are now four points off the National League North play-off place.
“We looked frail all over the pitch," said Morley to Chester Live.
"We don't look for excuses and we deserve whatever is thrown at us, whatever is thrown at us we have to take our medicine.
“I get picked to manage a group of players and I won't pass the buck, it was not good enough.
"We ran out of ideas and became predictable. For 90 minutes we chased our first touch throughout the team.
"This was worse than the Kidderminster game, this was as bad as I've seen. We just weren't at the races and it's not good enough.
“It’s the basics that I think we aren’t getting right. It's been like that since Christmas, forget the injuries the lads coming in can't do it either.”
