Mooney, who enjoyed four years with Orient between 2011 and 2015, will join the O’s on a two-year deal from tomorrow (July 1st), following the expiration of his contract at Southend United.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, the 32-year-old started his career at Shamrock Rovers in 2004, and went on to enjoy spells at fellow Irish sides Longford Town and Cork City before moving to England in 2008 when he signed for Reading.
During his time with the Royals, the former Republic of Ireland under-23 striker gained experience on loan at the likes of Stockport County, Norwich City, Charlton Athletic and Colchester United, before completing a permanent switch to Orient during the summer of 2011.
Whilst in E10, Mooney developed a fantastic relationship with supporters, registering a total of 51 goals in 170 appearances – including 21 goals in all competitions during the 2013/14 season as the O’s reached the Sky Bet League One play-off final.
After departing Orient in 2015, the forward signed for Southend where he has spent the past two seasons, scoring 10 goals in fifty appearances.
