Dayton returned from a three week absence for the loss to Aldershot Town after a calf injury, writes Tom Feaheny.
Before that his last game was on the goalless draw at home to Boreham Wood in the National League on the 6th January.
This new injury means his season is likely over.
A statement via the club website said.
"Following a scan this week, the Club are disappointed to confirm that midfielder James Dayton is required to undergo hamstring surgery.
The 29-year-old is expected to be out for a period of 12 weeks, meaning his season is likely to be over.
Everyone at the Club wishes James a speedy recovery."
