“We were talking the other day about the league table and what it all means,” he said.
“Going up a champions and the play-offs, how it all works and what we’ve got to do to avoid that.
“I explained how the play-offs operate and she was amazed that a team who can finish more than 20 points behind another can go up instead of them.
“She’s right. It’s hard to get your head around. With a bit of luck we won’t need to find out.”
Leyton Orient know three more wins, whatever happens elsewhere, will take them back into the EFL as champions.
The O’s hope it will be a very Good Friday, they welcome Harrogate Town in a game broadcast live on BT Sport.
Fans are twitchy and understandably so. But they would do well to listen to their goalkeeper, who is a cool custodian despite knowing a whole season could be defined over this Easter weekend.
“It’s a good place to be in,” the relaxed goalkeeper said. “You’ve got to try and enjoy it. This is the fun bit!
“It’s not nerves, it’s excitement. As you get older you tend to be a bit more measured about this type of situation.
“There’s a lot riding on it for sure, but we’re in a good position and we’ve had a fantastic season.
“It’s a really big and really exciting weekend. You’re in football for situations like this.”
You’re in football to win leagues, too. An achievement Brill, 33, has yet to place on his CV.
“I’ve won some cups but not yet a league title and I’m desperate to,” he said.
“It’s the pinnacle. Cups are great, I’ve won at Wembley with Luton in the JPT ten years ago but a league is over 46 games.
“Underdogs win cups. The best team always wins the league.”
Brill may be calm but not many Orient players would have been this time last year.
They had a poor first season in the National League and many would have been wondering what the future held.
“The club were brave and they backed us,” he said. “Pretty much the same squad was back for pre-season and I think the club and manager trusted that we could do better and that we were better than last season.
“We’ve seen the character in the past few games. A lesser dressing room would have lost after being behind at Eastleigh and then at Sutton but we won and it’s still in our hands.
“It’s a mini league now and we know what we’ve got to do. There’s a massive desire here to get the job done.
“We’ve been top for so long this season and now we’re desperate to get over the line.”
