Craig Clay cancelled out Rory Gaffney’s earlier strike two minutes from time to snatch victory from the hosts and speaking to Orient’s official video service, Edinburgh was quick to praise his players willingness to dig in.
“We had to dig deep and we had lots of opportunities,” he said. “But I think we showed great strength, resilience and character to come away with a well-earned point.
“If we hadn’t, it would have been a real bitter disappointment because I thought the performance was very good today.”
At times it looked like it might be one of those days for the visitors – hitting the woodwork twice and squandering a host of chances – leaving the O’s boss questioning whether they would ever make the breakthrough or not.
“We probably thought at times that it might be drifting away from us but testament to the players, they never ever give in and they got themselves back in the game and got a point.
“We were just pleased that the ball did eventually go over the Salford line because at times it didn’t look like that was going to happen today, but I think Craig (Clay) has claimed it.
“I thought we looked strong, I thought we finished very well on the front foot. I suppose we had a little lapse in the game once they did score and I thought perhaps the game was slipping away from us, but I think we’ve shown the great resilience.”
Edinburgh also paid homage to the travelling support – 667 Orient fans made the trip to the North-West despite the game being shown live on BT Sport.
“It’s quite incredible,” he said. It’s something I’m used to now. It could’ve been so easy (to stay at home). It was an early start for them but our fans were incredible, they played their part today – when the game went a little bit quiet on us, they lifted us and they certainly got us over that line.”
