On This Day: Action From The Archives (December 15, 2012)

By Steven Coney

As our clubs prepare for the return of FA Trophy action this weekend, we’ve decided to take a look back at years gone by.

We’ve flicked through the archives to find the last full programme of fixtures on December 15 and it makes for some interesting reading.

In the only League fixture of the day, Macclesfield Town were left frustrated after a goalless home draw against bottom side Nuneaton Town.

Macc boss Steve King was left “very, very disappointed” following the result. A win for the Silkmen would have seen them climb back into the play-off positions.

The biggest FA Trophy result came from lower league Chesham United where Barrow came away with a thumping 5-1 victory. An Adam Boyes double and goals from Sean McConville, Richie Baker and Danny Rowe sent the Bluebirds through.

New Gateshead manager Anth Smith saw his side win 1-0 at League rivals Cambridge United whilst Andy Cook’s double sent Grimsby on their way to a 4-0 victory at home against Havant & Waterlooville.

Our clubs were also involved in some Trophy upsets as AFC Telford United were beaten 3-1 at King’s Lynn Town.

Forest Green Rovers were dumped out on home soil by Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity and Conference South outfit Chelmsford City saw off Hereford United 3-0 at Edgar Street.
