Old National League Foes Wary Of Macc Attack

Last season's Vanarama National League play-off winners know what Macclesfield Town are capable of.

Forest Green Rovers manager Mark Cooper won't be underestimating the Silkmen when they arrive in Nailsworth tomorrow.

The two sides clash in the first round for the first time since 2001, a stage Rovers have been past just once in the last seven years.

Macclesfield sit second in the National League, a point behind leaders Dover Athletic, while FGR, after winning just one of their first 13 games in League One, have now won their last three.

Cooper can't wait to be back in the FA Cup, he said: "The FA Cup is a fantastic competition. I used to love it, FA Cup morning, getting up, watching the whole build-up as kid and I still get excited about it now.

"It's great if you can have a run in the FA Cup and get yourself to the 3rd or 4th round and get one of the big boys then it’s a great occasion for everyone.

"We were the favourites last year when we went to Sutton (United) and we lost. We're not thinking too heavily about favouritism, we’re just looking at the game.

“We know we have a tough game ahead of us against a team that is playing some really good football.

"They have changed their style, they're trying to really play and play out from the back so it's a game we have to be wary of and we have to be at full tilt to win it.”
