Old Aldershot Favourites Return In Opposing Dugout

By David Richardson

Gary Waddock's Aldershot Town will be up against two familiar faces in the opposing dugout when Torquay United visit in the FA Cup this weekend.

Gulls manager Gary Owers was the Shots' assistant manager from 2009-11, guiding them to the League Two play-offs in 2010.

Owers was recently appointed as the Torquay manager and they remain bottom of the National League.

His assistant, Martin Kuhl, was assistant manager to Waddock during his first spell at Aldershot, winning promotion to the League in 2008.

Waddock and Kuhl both left Aldershot for Wycombe Wanderers in 2009.

Now they reunite albeit on opposite sides in the fourth qualifying round tomorrow.

"It's a great competition with the history and tradition that goes with it," said Waddock. "Obviously we'd like a run in it if we can but we come up against a tough opponent on Saturday. We'd love to get a win and progress.

"The management team have changed there, who we know extremely well. They've got good players within their group, I personally think they'll get out of the situation they're in. They've recruited well in the short time they've been there.

"Gary and Kuhly will want to give a good account of themselves and their team coming back to Aldershot.

"Kuhly deserves a fantastic reception from our crowd when he returns. We had some great times together. He is a very, very good coach and assistant manager. We've stayed in contact throughout and we'll say hello before the game.

"We won't say anything during I'm sure but after we'll get together and have a good chat."
