O`Donnell in New Role

By Steve Whitney

Former fans’ favourite JJ O’Donnell is to return to Vanarama National League club Gateshead in an off-the-pitch role.

O’Donnell spent eighteen months at the International Stadium as a player, famously netting in the Heed’s 3-1 play-off semi-final second leg victory over Grimsby Town.

As he continues his rehabilitation following toe surgery, the 24-year-old is to re-join the Tynesiders in a new capacity, combining a string of duties away from the field.

O’Donnell will be responsible for all of the first-team’s kit and equipment, taking care of the players’ requirements throughout the week and on a matchday.

In addition, he will also take on a key role in the club’s fledgling community programme, beginning with our ‘Silver Soccer’ walking football scheme, which gets underway next week.

O’Donnell will spearhead the majority of our sessions in the weeks to come, the first of which takes place at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Monday.
