Now We Must Win At Home Says Owers

By David Richardson

After a fine away victory at Sutton United on a Tuesday night, Gary Owers knows Torquay United must start winning at home to ease their relegation worries.

The Gulls are second from bottom but received a big confidence boost in mid-week, ending Sutton’s nine-game unbeaten run.

Leyton Orient are the visitors to Plainmoor tomorrow having not won in 13 games and sit three points above the relegation zone.

They drew 2-2 with Chester on Tuesday night and have added centre-back Bondz N’Gala on loan from Dagenham to try and prevent their goal leak.

For Torquay, Owers wants nothing more but to give their fans three points at home.

“The fans have been very supportive, they’ve been great at home,” he said. “The people that have travelled have been exceptional.

“I must say the amount of miles that they put in, and the times that they must get home, early in the morning and late at night – I’ve got nothing but respect for our supporters.

“They’ve seen what we’re trying to do, obviously there comes a time where they’ll get fed up if we’re getting beat and not getting out the situation we’re in and that’s what we’re trying to do altogether.

Torquay have won just once at home this season which has been a major factor in their difficult start to the season.

Owers added: “The last two halves of the last two home games, we’ve played really well. I’ve said we might not play any better than that at times this season and maybe we didn’t at Sutton the other night, but we still got the three points.

“So, I am aware of the home form and I’m aware we need to do better at home if we’re to get out this situation.”
