Now That’s A Welcome To Management For You, Kev!

Frustrated but proud, it was a typical rollercoaster of managerial emotions on day one in the job for new Southport manager Kevin Davies.

The Bolton Wanderers legend learned all about what that side of the game is all about after seeing a winning start snatched from him.

Gainsborough made it 2-2 in the final minute through Craig King’s fortuitous goal to deny the new boss a three point first game.

But he was at paints to stress that the Sandgrounders showed serious resolve to not fall to pieces after making a bad start in the wind and the rain.

“It’s mixed emotions really,” Davies said. “We could have gone under after going behind so early in the game but we didn’t.

“I was proud and pleased with the reaction I got from the players in obviously very difficult conditions.

“We showed fantastic spirit to get back into it and it was almost the perfect script for my first game in charge but they scored with a lucky ricochet and they have left us gutted really.

“But keeping in mind that we have only been here a matter of days I was very proud of what I saw.

He added: “Of course we are disappointed that we haven’t seen the game out but we have stopped the rot of losing.

“I really think we can build on this point and move forward. It’s disappointing not to get that win but from a difficult game we have to take the positives.”
