Not Enough Energy Or Intensity, Complains Jones

Mark Jones knows his Oxford City players must take more responsibility if they are to preserve their Vanarama National League South status.

A limp 2-0 weekend defeat at Hemel Hempstead Town keeps the club in the division’s bottom three.

On Saturday his team were below par for the first hour and only got themselves going once the Tudors were two goals to the good.

Manager Jones knew it was a mountain to climb and wants his players to play more as a unit with an important run of fixtures around the corner.

“I don’t think we did enough to take anything from the game really, in the end Hemel won the game quite comfortably,” said City boss Jones in an interview with BBC Oxford.

“We didn’t have anywhere near enough energy or intensity in the first half - we had too many people were looking around for others to do the

“We had a strong wind going for us in the first half and the idea was to use that to our advantage and put them under pressure but we didn’t go that.

“We were flat and I don’t know why but our half time changes gave us a little more life and I was quite pleased with how we played in the second half.

“We did better, but it wasn’t anywhere near enough really. In tight and scrappy games we don’t seem to be getting enough points on the board which isn’t good enough.”
