North And South Sides Braced For Boxing Day Bonanza

By Sam Elliott

Bumper crowds with big derby matches and old hostilities resumed, it’s going to be a brilliant Boxing Day!

Scunthorpe United head the Vanarama National League North on virtue of goal difference - they’re looking for things to stay that way when Farsley Celtic visit Glanford Park.

Ideally the Iron want Tamworth to slip but their form in recent weeks firmly suggests that the Lambs are going nowhere in the title race. They are at home, with Rushall Olympic visiting.

Chorley have closed the gap on the frontrunners to seven points - can they keep chiselling away at the with another victory? They go to a Spennymoor Town side who are really out of form.

South Shields are also on the slide. But there’s no better way to get a season up and running that with derby delight - they go up against Blyth Spartans.

Hereford are now fifth but know their Boxing Day opponents Gloucester City are fighting for their lives.

King’s Lynn Town and Boston United have history, they clash over Christmas while Chester vs Warrington will be full-blooded for sure.

Yeovil Town have an eight-point advantage in the National League South again but Mark Cooper will not let his players rest on their laurels.

They’re at home to Taunton Town as second place Hampton & RB go to Slough Town knowing all they can do is keep on winning - and it is a meeting of the league’s two form sides.

Torquay United need to put their weekend set-back aside, they’re at Plainmoor against Truro City, while it’s the big Essex derby as play-off hunters Braintree Town and Chelmsford City meet and the clubs don’t have much time for each other!

Welling United and Dartford also aren’t the best of buddies and both need a win on Boxing Day as they chase some consistency.

St Albans City and Hemel Hempstead are eyeing a surge in the weeks ahead after a promising weekend, while Worthing and Eastbourne had a poor one - they’re going into battle too.
