We’ve had a bit of fun and picked out resolutions for a few sides in the ultra-competitive National League South that could give them a huge helping hand.
What should your team be looking to improve on this year? Let us know on Twitter.
Dartford - Tighten up…
Top of the pile they may be but there are just five points between the Darts and seventh-placed Hemel Hempstead Town. All of the front runners know they can’t afford a dip in form with challengers aplenty waiting in the wings. The big challenge for Tony Burman’s side is keeping more clean sheets. They’ve kept only one of them in the National League South since September. Goals have ensured that hasn’t been a problem recently but clean sheets will be needed down the road.
Gloucester City - Fight on…
If there’s one club that knows how to battle, it’s Gloucester City. The Tigers have been fighting to get a new stadium of their own for years and have found it difficult on the pitch this season following their switch from the National League North. Boss Tim Harris quit but his replacement Marc Richards knows all about the club. They picked up a vital 3-0 win at Oxford City on New Year’s Day and Richards will know they’ll need a few more of those between now and April.
Hampton & Richmond Borough - Keep on burrowing…
The Beavers have been nothing short of fantastic recently. They went on an eight-game winning run in the League and are now unbeaten in 18 games in National League South. New signing Elliott Charles scored a hat-trick in the impressive 3-0 win at Wealdstone on New Year’s Day and he could end up being the final piece of the puzzle for boss Alan Dowson. Borough are firmly in the title mix and full of confidence.
Havant & Waterlooville - Find some home comforts…
Similar to Hampton, Havant & Waterlooville have also been riding the crest of a wave recently. The Hawks have won six of their last nine National League South fixtures - drawing the other three. Lee Bradbury’s side have plenty of quality and have the best defensive record in the division and in Matt Tubbs and Jason Prior, they have a forward partnership that is capable of firing them to the title. Just three wins from 11 games at Westleigh Park, however, has been poor and their home record must improve.
Whitehawk - Don’t stop believing…
There’s life in the Hawks! They’ve had a miserable time of it so far this season but they finally tasted victory for the first time on New Year’s Day. A comprehensive 4-1 win at rivals Eastbourne Borough is just what the doctor ordered but they know they need to string a number of wins together to stand a chance of survival. If they do pull it off, it would be one hell of an achievement. Steve King’s men have started 2018 in perfect fashion but can they keep it going?
