Macclesfield have brought in 15 new signings this summer as they bid to improve on last season's 9th placed finish.
The Silkmen claimed pre-season scalps against League Two Crewe Alexandra and League One Bury and held Championship promotion hopefuls Derby County and newly promoted Blackpool.
Now Askey faces the difficult decision of picking his starting eleven for Wrexham.
He told the club's website: "There will be some disappointed lads who don’t make the squad, but as I’ve stressed to them all it’s early doors. We’ve got players now that no matter who goes in and who comes out, we’re strong.
"That’s what you want from your squad – they’re all very capable at this level. When you’re playing well, they should all be pushing for a place.
"I’m happy with the business we’ve done this summer but there’s still one or two places I’d like to strengthen, although hopefully we won’t need to if everybody is fit and playing well! When you’re winning the team doesn’t change too much, but we’ll see as the season goes."
And on their tough start at the Reds, he added: "We can't wait for it to start, really. It’s one of those where everybody gets anxious or excited about the first game, but as we all know it’s a long season and we’ve got to make sure we go into the game not too excitable – just knowing there’s a job to be done and play with confidence.
“Many of the Wrexham lads we’ve played against or have played for us, so we know all about them. They’ve got a decent squad and they’ve spent heavily this season but if we play to our potential then we can match anybody in the league.”
