New Boss Sheridan Sees There Is Plenty Of Work Ahead

John Sheridan took charge of his first Chesterfield game - and saw there is plenty of work ahead of him.

The Spireites are through to the FA Trophy third round but they made hard work of it.

National League Chesterfield secured a narrow 1-0 win against the Southern League side but the new boss was just happy to get off to a winning start

“I’ve seen things why probably they’ve ended up losing games and made themselves vulnerable throughout the season,” he told the club’s website.

“With no disrespect to the opposition today, if you make those little mistakes you get punished against better opposition.

“The most important thing is that we get off to a good start, a winning start. A big plus the clean sheet. I don’t care who the opposition is.

“I’m just pleased that we've ended up winning the game and one-nil is as good as five-nil.”

Sheridan added: We’re in a tricky position in the league so we need to do things quickly.

“I’m trying to bring players in. I’m speaking to players and I’m confident and positive that I’ll have a couple in by the time we play Aldershot.”
