New Boss Ross Aims To Re-Invent The Way Wood Will Play

The 33-year-old arrived last month after leaving Oxford City, the club he took to promotion from the National League South little over 12 months before.

And while both he and his new side suffered relegation in April, Wood hope his familiarity with their new division will give them a head start.

But he wants things to be a little different next year as the club moves on from Luke Garrard’s nine years at the helm.

“National League South is tough, I’ve learned a lot about the consistency at this level last time - there’s a lot of ability and a lot of experience,” he said.

“We’re going to play a different style. I’m looking to control the ball and play through the pitch. We want the fans to enjoy the football whilst we get results.

“It’s going to be interesting to put forward a different brand of football. Hopefully the players here will be on board with that, it won’t happen overnight but we’ve got a great staff.”

It’s a new era and Jenkins is well aware he is following in the footsteps of a legend.

Garrard had been in charge of the club since October 2015 and he hopes to build a bond from an early point.

“The fans are going to understand that we’re going to change things slightly,” he added. “We want to entertain them and it will be exciting - hopefully we can build that connection quickly.”

“The club has changed a lot since I was a youth team player playing here and we want to give ourselves the very best chance of success.”
