National League's Biggest Wins Of Recent Seasons

By Steven Coney

Goals flew in on Saturday like they were going out of fashion and the mammoth scorelines got us thinking.

AFC Fylde and Gateshead both scored seven and Harrogate Town added six of their own in the National League North.

We decided to go through the National League archives and look back at some of the biggest wins of recent years.

Tranmere Rovers 9-0 Solihull Moors (National League - April 8, 2017)

Hat-tricks for Cole Stockton and Connor Jennings helped Tranmere demolish Solihull Moors towards the end of last season. It was only 3-0 at half-time but Rovers ran riot in the second period. Despite the heavy defeat, Solihull retained their National League place. Tranmere fans would most likely want to forget how the season ended for them…

Ebbsfleet United 8-0 Bishop’s Stortford (National League South - March 21, 2017)

Another game with players fighting over the match ball. Darren McQueen and Anthony Cook both claimed trebles in this big win over Bishop’s Stortford. The hosts ended up winning promotion through the play-offs whilst the visitors were relegated. It proved to be a big day of results as Eastbourne Borough also swept Welling United aside 7-3!

AFC Fylde 9-2 Boston United (National League North - November 19, 2016)

Fylde have previous! They may have scored seven on Saturday but they went two better last season against Boston United. The eventual National League North champions were fired, as usual, by Danny Rowe with the talisman grabbing four himself. Oh and two years before this game, the Coasters also won 8-1 at Oxford City!

Chester 8-2 Aldershot Town (National League - March 8, 2016)

Rowe isn’t the only man on this list with four goals in a game. James Alabi also scored a quartet of strikes for Chester in the 2015-16 campaign. Even more remarkably, Alabi had completed his haul by half-time! Ross Hannah and Sam Hughes also grabbed doubles in this rout of poor Aldershot.

Concord Rangers 7-0 Farnborough (National League South - December 6, 2014)

Then managed by Danny Cowley, Concord continued to make waves in the National League South, dismissing Farnborough in devastating fashion. A brace from Joe Gardner sent the Beachboys on their way and there was just no stopping them.

Mansfield Town 8-1 Barrow (National League - February 8, 2013)

Barrow fans must have been sick of the sight of Field Mill. Beaten 7-0 in March 2012, they returned just under 12 months later and were beaten by seven goals again! Striker Matt Green helped himself to a hat-trick as the Stags ran riot on their way to the League title.
