National League Title Race: The Story Of The Season So Far

By Tom Scott

The National League title race is reaching fever pitch as the lead changed hands again this week!

Incredibly, we've seen the leadership swap 12 times over the course of the season so far.

Wrexham currently sit top of the pile but it was Barrow, way back in August who became our first leaders of the season after overcoming Havant & Waterlooville in the season opener.

Martin Allen took Chesterfied to the top for two weeks before Wrexham were at the summit for the first time of the season.

After spending five weeks looking down on everyone else, a 3-2 win over Gateshead saw Simon Weaver and Harrogate Town climb into pole position.

Leyton Orient then spent a fortnight in charge before Salford City held the fort for three weeks - taking the lead after a convincing win at Maidenhead.

Over the following three week period, Leyton Orient, Salford City and Wrexham all had a spell on top.

The O's then took control, beating Bromley 3-1 to retake their place as the number one side.

Just over three months later, Orient finally gave up their stronghold as Solihull Moors did the unthinkable and rose to the front of the grid.

How long will Wrexham hang on? Bryan Hughes has talked endlessly about momentum and with just five points separating the Dragons and fourth-placed AFC Fylde, the title race could be a great watch in weeks to come.
