National League South: Complete Weekend Preview

By Sam Elliott

All the National League South title contenders face demanding away games this weekend as things get really interesting.

The top five are all on their travels - and that could allow the sides below them back into the championship picture.

That includes Torquay United, who are sixth after an unconvincing last five weeks.

But the nature of this league is that if you get on a winning run, the opportunities open again. Victory at Plainmoor against third-place Boreham Wood would put them right back in the mix with a game in hand.

The leaders Dorking Wanderers watched on in midweek as Wood and Eastbourne Borough closed the gap with narrow but important wins.

It’s a trip to Enfield Town for the table toppers, while the Sports, sitting in second, travel to Bath City - and striker George Alexander has seven goals in his last three matches.

Worthing are very much in contention, but were left cursing a poor result at home to Farnborough on Tuesday. They wouldn’t have wished for a trip to Chelmsford City as they look to bounce back and up the heat on Dorking, Eastbourne and Boreham Wood above them.

Truro City, pictured, are well placed to stay in the mix - can they go to Chesham United and turn the temperature up on their title rivals with the Tinners just five points off the pace?

Maidstone United’s title chances are being stunted by their inability to score away from home. So they will be happy to be back at the Gallagher Stadium as Salisbury pay a visit.

Just outside the play-off pack are Weston-super-Mare and they take on Farnborough, who love causing problems for the promotion chasers.

At the bottom of the table, Welling United know they need to make the most of matches at Park View Road. Slough Town made the trip with the Wings outside the bottom four on go difference.

St Albans City are giving themselves a survival chance, they’re at Chippenham, while Weymouth host Hornchurch knowing only a winning run will do now.

The same can be said of Aveley, they face Hampton & RB, while Hemel Hempstead play Tonbridge Angels.
