National League South: Complete Weekend Preview

By Sam Elliott

It’s not often the National League South leadership stays in the same hands for more than a few days.

Such is the volatile nature of life at the top of the division this season, Eastbourne Borough will be thrilled with their staying power.

Especially after coming from behind to defeat Welling United in midweek after scoring five at Hemel Hempstead. Now can they spend another matchday leading the way?

George Alexander wants the games to keep coming and after five goals in 180 minutes, he has Chippenham Town in his sights on Saturday.

The Bluebirds are nobody’s fool - just asked second place Truro City. After their late show in the 1-1 draw, John Askey takes his team to Welling and they want to make sure the current leaders don’t get comfortable. The Wings have had a tough few weeks.

Undefeated at home, Torquay United are content to loiter near the summit and get ready to go in for the kill later on. They can help their cause by defeating Tonbridge Angels at Plainmoor.

Weston-super-Mare’s resolve is being tested. After agony in the FA Cup, they needed a late show to take a point at home to strugglers Weymouth on Tuesday. Can they get back to winning ways at Bath City, who have lost their last three.

Firing a few weeks ago, Chelmsford City have now only tasted victory once in five matches. A visit from Dorking Wanderers will offer clues to what’s ahead.

Maidstone United are moving in the right direction and there’s another important three points up for grabs when Hornchurch arrive.

Daryl McMahon’s men have just beaten Hemel Hempstead, who will feel they need to end their winless run at home to Hampton & RB.

St Albans City were left heartbroken by the latest of equalisers against Chelmsford on Tuesday. It’s a big game at Weymouth, who tasted a similar bitter injury-time midweek pill at Weston.

Elsewhere Enfield Town look to boost their survival hopes again Salisbury, Chesham United and in-form Worthing meet and Farnborough face Slough Town.

Aveley are in need of the points but Boreham Wood travel after getting back to winning ways on Wednesday.
