National League Sides At The Ready For FA Cup Replays

By Sam Elliott

After the First Round draw is made, the midweek replay always suddenly seem that little bit more important.

They’ll be nodding their heads to that theory in Berkshire tonight. Maidenhead United and Chippenham Town do battle again and there’s a huge prize at the end of it.

League One leaders Portsmouth await - and surely a sell-out game with the winner of tonight’s replay playing host to the 2008 winners in one of the ties of the round.

Morecambe may not quite have the same ring to it but FC Halifax and Warrington Town will be desperate to progress to a match with the League Two Shrimps.

Paul Carden, a former National League favourite at Cambridge United and Luton Town, has turned the Evo-Stik League Yellows into a force and Halifax can’t afford to think they’ve done the hard bit with a 2-2 draw in Cheshire.

The Shaymen haven’t won in any competition since August and they have got a difficult evening ahead as they look to get that monkey off their back.

Two National League title contenders gear up for their third meeting inside a month - and after two goalless draws so far, something has got to give.

Wrexham host Harrogate at the Racecourse - the winners head to Somerset and face the National League South’s bottom club Weston-super-Mare.

After their 1-1 at Vauxhall Road, Oxford City will fancy their chances on home turf again managerless Hemel Hempstead. The winner heads to National League Promotion Finalists Tranmere Rovers in the next round.

Peter Taylor wants Dagenham’s inspired comeback at Boreham Wood on Saturday to energise them for tonight replay in East London.

The winner travels to Haig Avenue to face National League North side Southport.

On Wednesday it’s Billericay’s turn to show some strength of character. They may have scored 15 goals in the FA Cup so far but they surrendered home advantage on Saturday in the 2-2 draw and head to Taunton knowing a demanding night is in prospect.
