National League Saddened By Passing Of Steve Whitney

By Sam Elliott

The National League are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Steve Whitney.

The dedicated former media manager had a connection with many clubs including Rothwell Town, Desborough Town, Kettering and Wellingborough Town. He also served AFC Rushden & Diamonds as a technical director.

His passion for the game was well known, and he began full-time in football journalism as editor of Team Talk magazine in 1991.

He set up Pitchero Non-League in January 2011 and also worked tirelessly for the Southern Football League and the Northern Premier League.

Former player Steve would often tell the story of how he was signed by Ron Atkinson for Kettering Town after some time as an apprentice at Swansea City.

Everyone at the National League sends its condolences to his family and many friends within the game.
