National League North: Complete Weekend Preview

By Sam Elliott

There’s some good news for Vanarama National League North defenders: they won’t have to try and cope with Leamington striker Callum Stewart any longer.

The 23-year-old was the division’s joint top scorer with 14 goals from 23 games, and that return has seen him earn a move to League One club Shrewsbury Town.

It’s now Wrexham on Thursday night not Darlington on Saturday for the forward. Gareth Ainsworth was determined to get his man after watching him in action for the Brakes.

Stewart, who signs a two-and-a-half-year contract, said: "I know the head of recruitment and the manager have watched me a couple of times and then I got a call about 10 days ago to say Shrewsbury wanted to sign me."

This weekend, new leaders Kidderminster Harriers just want to stay there - it’s a visit from Warrington Town after the table toppers passed a "test of character" at Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday night.

Curzon Ashton manager Craig Mahon wants to celebrate his new contract with three points but Brackley Town have won their last three games and arrive after a breathless late victory at Alfreton Town.

Billy Heath’s team have their work cut out at goal-hungry Chester, who have taken ten points from a possible 12 and have scored eight times in their last two.

But don’t discount King's Lynn Town, especially if the third-place side beat Marine at home while Scunthorpe United fans crave consistency - it won’t be easy at Chorley, despite Andy Preece’s team winning only one of their last four.

On Friday night Farsley Celtic begin life without Pav Singh in their dug-out with a home game against Scarborough Athletic.

Two of the bottom four meet in an important match when Needham Market welcome Radcliffe while fast-improving Rushall Olympic look for a fourth victory on the spin but it will be demanding up at Spennymoor Town.

Elsewhere, Buxton play Peterborough Sports, South Shields take on Oxford City and play-off hopefuls Hereford have a home game with Jim Bentley’s Southport.
