National League Cup Opening Night Lit Up By Lots Of Goals

The opening night of the National League Cup produced plenty of entertainment - including a ten goal thriller!

The competition launched on Tuesday as our clubs pit themselves against talented young teams from Premier League and EFL sides.

If the first evening is anything to go by, we’re in for goals - and they certainly flowed at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Ben Strevens team drew 5-5 with a spirited Tottenham Hotspur U21, who battled back from 4-1 down to claim a point. Spurs went on to earn an extra one on penalties.

It was dramatic at Woking after Dion Kelly-Evans glanced in a 95th minute free-kick to make it 2-2 with Brighton. The Seagulls kept their composure on penalties.

Ebbsfleet did get joy from the spot. They also drew 2-2 against West Brom’s youngsters, Charles Ondo was on target for the Fleet.

The goals kept coming. Boston United were edged out 4-3 by Leeds United - but Keaton Ward had a night to remember with two fine goals for the Pilgrims.

Oldham Athletic want silverware this season. They defeated a determined Stoke City side 2-1, Alex Reid and Harry Charsley were the scorers.

Sam Barratt shone as Maidenhead United claimed a maiden National League Cup triumph over Fulham. It ended 2-0.

It was a good night for Gateshead after a difficult day. They begun life without manager Rob Elliot by beating Middlesbrough 1-0. Jovan Malcolm with the decisive goal in the first half.

FC Halifax Town went down 2-1 to Newcastle United, while there was frustration for Wealdstone - their game with Southampton was postponed.
