The former Woking, Dagenham, Weymouth and Rushden boss, 59, has seen his side move to within two points of the play-off places.
Hill says Saturday’s fantastic 4-2 win over Wrexham was a highlight and against a backdrop of uncertainty every victory is tasting even sweeter.
The manager has now won 41 points since taking over in November.
“They’re a special group, there’s no doubt about that - very special,” he said.
“They have got to be up there with the best I’ve worked with. They’re different class.
“They are one of the best I have worked with and character is carrying them through at the moment.”
He added: “To be where we are and within a few points of the play-offs is an achievement in itself.
“Now we’ve got to see how far this can take us. There’s no pressure on them to get results and I think maybe we’re seeing that in the performances.
“They don’t want to give up, they want to keep fighting and I cannot speak highly enough of every single one of them.
“They are a close-knit group who hopefully will just keep getting stronger.”
