More National League North And South Drama Ahead

By Sam Elliott

Month one done, and so to September. The National League North and South are both off to flying starts with statements aplenty.

August gave us plenty of food for thought and the football comes thick and fast with another brilliant programme lined up on Saturday.

You may not have found too many people saying Curzon Ashton and Tamworth would both occupy a play-off place even this early on but standing proud in the top seven, they’re both looking capable of putting in a real challenge.

Curzon are second ahead of the Lambs' National League North visit and won’t want to miss the chance to hit top spot.

To do that they need Scunthorpe United to drop points at Alfreton, and with Spennymoor lurking - they welcome Chester this weekend - we’re going to be in for another interesting afternoon.

Jim Bentley says it won’t be a quick fix at Southport after taking over as manager, he begins the job of lifting the club off the foot of the table at Hereford.

Blyth Spartans and Boston United, who have both enjoyed solid starts, meet while Chorley look for a third win on the spin when they face Bishop’s Stortford. Brackley welcome Warrington while Buxton face Darlington.

Just two points separate the top four clubs in the National League South.

Bath City, pictured, are wondering if they can hit the summit on Saturday with a fourth straight win but know they now face a Havant & Waterlooville side inspired - their thrilling 4-3 win over Yeovil on Monday was the game of the season so far.

Leaders Worthing take their title charge to Braintree Town, but they’re not the unbeaten side left in the division.

That team is Chelmsford City who have taken 14 points so far and sit second with Yeovil Town desperate to set the record straight after a Bank Holiday Monday to forget. It's the weekend's big game.

Torquay United are very much moving in the right direction but they won’t have it all their own way at fast starters Aveley.

Taunton Town are also representing the west country in the play-off places and can carry on their charge with three points against Dartford.

Eastbourne Borough have been surprisingly poor in the first four weeks but can begin their climb by defeating Weston-super-Mare. Hampton & RB are back on the road for a seventh time already and go to Spencer Day’s Farnborough.
