Money Makes Solid Start As Pools Win Through In Trophy

Richard Money saw plenty of battling qualities from his new Hartlepool United players as they avoided an FA Trophy.

Ryan Donaldson’s second half solo goal was enough to beat National League North Leamington away from home.

It was a successful start for the new manager, who replaced Matthew Bates last week.

He told the club’s website that they were good value for it.

“I think we deserved it, there’s no doubt about that,” Money said.

“It was very windy, heavy rain so it was tough conditions for both teams but we did OK at times.

“In the final third we were a bit loose; the crossing wasn’t very good and we didn’t have enough clear-cut chances but it was a great goal that won it from Donaldson.

“It’s tough though. Away from home, inclement conditions, against a team from the league below when everything is set up for an upset but we’ve won 1-0 and that’s the most important thing.”

Money’s first National League test comes this Saturday when Pools host Havant & Waterlooville.
