Midweek Preview: Vanarama National League North

By Tom Feaheny

Tuesday night football is back with a near full set of matches in the Vanarama National League North!

Last season there were two divisions between Blyth Spartans and York City, who were both defeated during the opening weekend, they face each other in the Vanarama National League North for the first time at Croft Park, writes Tom Feaheny.

There is a Yorkshire Derby as North Ferriby United who lost on Saturday 4-0 aim to get their first win of the season as they host Harrogate Town who gained an emphatic 4-0 victory.

The team that lost to Town were Nuneaton Town with Tommy Wright's side hosting Kidderminster Harriers who lost to an own goal against Chorley.

Matt Jansen's side on paper had the most difficult opening two games, they next host Salford City with their joint managers wanting an improvement after they left empty handed at the weekend.

Spennymoor Town gained their first home win the Vanarama National League North will aim to gain their first three point away in the league as they travel to FC United of Manchester who lost 2-1 at the weekend.

Two teams who both gained victory at the weekend will look to extend their 100% percent records as AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has his first home game in charge against Brackley Town.

A 4-0 loss for Boston United was not the ideal start to the season as they were defeated by Southport, they next face a team who had a better weekend in John McDermott's Alfreton Town who beat new boys Blyth 2-0.

Another side back in the Vanarma National League North as Leamington with Paul Holleran's team hoping to extend their winning run as they host a Tamworth side who lost to a 97th minute Adam Boyes strike against Bradford Park Avenue.

Stockport County host their first match of the season as they look to earn their first points against Curzon Ashton who were the joint highest winners of the weekend with a 4-0 win.

And on Wednesday night Darlington buoyed by that win at Salford City face Dave Frecklington's Gainsborough Trinity.

Meanwhile Southport moved to the top of the table after defeating Bradford Park Avenue 2-1, thanks to an added time strike by Gary Roberts.
