Midweek Preview: Vanarama National League

By David Richardson

The first set of Tuesday night fixtures are almost upon us so let's take a look at the action coming up under the lights!

Early leaders Aldershot Town are set to host their first home game of the season against Torquay United. Gary Waddock's half-time team talk inspired his Shots to score twice at FC Halifax Town to win 2-0, while Kevin Nicholson's Gulls earned a point against Tranmere Rovers.

Sutton United kicked off BT Sport's National League coverage with a 2-0 victory over newcomers Leyton Orient, and they travel to another club on the south coast, Eastleigh.

Wrexham boss Dean Keates is hoping his side can bounce back from defeat when they travel to Maidenhead United, who will host their first ever National League fixture.

Another manager hoping his side will perform better is Neil Aspin at Gateshead. The Heed suffered a 2-1 defeat to Woking and they face a visit at the Gateshead International Stadium from Guiseley.

Dagenham and Redbridge got off to a winning start at home to Barrow, thanks to goals from Corey Whitely and Michael Cheek. The Daggers head to Boreham Wood while Paul Cox's Barrow host FC Halifax Town.

It's a Kent derby at Stonebridge Road as Maidstone United visit Ebbsfleet United. The Stones suffered a late blow drawing at home to Maidenhead and Fleet did similar, conceding late at Guiseley for a point.

Dover Atheltic manager Chris Kinnear believes not many clubs will win at Hartlepool United like his side did on Saturday afternoon. Kinnear's men host Bromley while Pools go in search of a first National League win at Macclesfield Town.

It was the perfect start for new Woking manager Anthony Limbrick but now an even tougher test lays ahead as they travel to Tranmere Rovers. Micky Mellon's Rovers will be without captain Steve McNulty and James Norwood after both players were sent off at Torquay.

Chester kick-off their season at home to AFC Fylde after their game at Solihull Moors on the opening day was postponed. Moors travel to Leyton Orient, with O's boss Steve Davis confident his side can bounce back from Saturday's loss.
