Merson's Treble Gets Saints Back On The Front Foot Again

Ian Allinson wasn’t playing down the importance of St Albans’ win at Gloucester City on Tuesday night.

The Saints needed to bounce back after three defeats in a row and they did in the perfect way, winning 4-1 to strengthen their play-off position.

The victory moved Allinson’s men up to fifth ahead of a massive game against Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday.

Sam Merson grabbed himself another hat-trick to set the Saints on their way and give them a timely confidence boost ahead of the final week of the season.

“It was a difficult game in difficult conditions,” Allinson told the club’s Youtube channel. “It was an important win and the three-goal advantage is important for the play-off places.

“If you give Sam half a chance, he will stick it away. We needed to settle things down going into the last week of the season and his goals have helped us.

“Last week hurt and we had to pick ourselves back up. We got the result and the supporters were outstanding.

“We need as many St Albans supporters behind the club on Saturday. Hopefully, we can put another win on the board that would put us in a good position of securing a play-off place.”
