Fans let the club’s players know what they thought about their meek 0-0 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.
The Latics may only be two points outside the promotion positions, but they haven’t won in five - and they know it’ll be all-but over if they don’t put that right during the busy Easter period.
Victory at troubled Eastleigh was Oldham’s only success for five weeks and Mellon told supporters he is aware his team aren’t playing like a side that will haul their way into the top seven.
But he said after the stalemate in East London that unity is the only way things will turn - and he is certain they have enough quality to keep their hopes alive.
“We made hard work of it, it was a scrappy game but that’s what it’s like at this point in the season,” he told the club’s YouTube channel. “We had chances to nick it and yes, that would have been nicking it, but that is what you’ve got to do.
“The fans at the end were frustrated, we’re all frustrated trust me, but the only way we can do this is by sticking together.
“Six games to go, we’ve just got to keep at it. We’re at this point in the season when things go a bit mad, you get some crazy results. What we’ve got to find is consistency.
“We know we can play much, much better than that. We couldn’t get a spark. But you take what you get, but it’s another point on the board.”
On Good Friday, Oldham take on AFC Fylde before a huge live TNT Sports trip to fellow play-off hunters Altrincham.
